Start with the research question
Before reading a result, write the question the test is supposed to answer. “Does this sample show a different lab value?” is much narrower than “Does this device improve human health?”
Check the endpoint
Endpoints can include physical measurements, cell or animal markers, water measurements, subjective questionnaires or clinical outcomes. The farther an endpoint is from the buyer-facing claim, the more inference is required.
Check controls and blinding
For outcomes vulnerable to expectation effects, blinding matters. For instrument measurements, calibration, environmental controls and repeatability matter. For biological studies, sample size and predefined analysis matter.
Check independence and replication
Who paid for the test? Was the protocol chosen before results were known? Has an independent group repeated it? Industry-funded research is not automatically invalid, but conflicts should be visible and replication increases confidence.
Match evidence to wording
A narrow laboratory result should be described narrowly. It should not be expanded into claims about treating, preventing or curing disease without appropriate clinical evidence and regulatory support.
Context from public-health bodies
WHO says extensive research has not confirmed health consequences from typical low-level EMF exposure, while acknowledging ongoing research and knowledge gaps. That context should accompany, not be erased by, product-specific lab claims.
